Condition and information:
Very beautiful desk pencil sharpeners by FTE, made in Art Deco style in the late 30's. FTE was a German manufacturer of similar mechanical devices but not writing instruments. The sharpener is in mint condition. This is the semi-automatic model, where the pencil when placed in the mouth of the sharpener, automatically retracts inside while the lever is rotated. The mechanism and its sharping edges are very sharp making a perfect pencil tip. The mechanism is smooth and precise, no loose parts or squeaks. The sharpener is made entirely out of bakelite, and all metal parts are chromed. Looks perfect on any desk, a true time capsule of the more elegant times.
