Rare PELIKAN 4001 Royal Blue Washable Ink in Glass Bottle
This is one of the rare examples where we see Pelikan outsourcing a product to a different company, especially outside Germany, and maybe the only time they have licensed a product outside Germany.
We had the joy and opportunity to find these bottles packed in a packs of 12, in an out of business office and supply store. Made in Istanbul Turkey by BÜROSAN as a licensed Pelikan product, this ink was very likely intended for the Middle East market, and maybe even some countries in Asia. One thing is sure though, that this is an original Pelikan licensed product, as it clearly states on each bottle in Turkish:
"PELIKAN A.G. LISANSI ILE BÜROSAN SEFAKÖY/İST. DA YAPILMIŞTIR" which translated says: "MADE IN BÜROSAN SEFAKÖY/İST. WITH PELIKAN A.G. LICENSE.
And on the carton box:
"PELİKAN A.G. lisansı ile; Büro Sanayii A.Ş.; tarafından imal edilmiştir.", translated: "Manufactured by Büro Sanayii A.Ş. under the license of PELİKAN A.G."
These are very rare bottles with white cap, simply look dazzling on a desk, in contrast to the well known black and blue ink capped bottles.
All of these came full with ink, 35cc (cubic centimeters, or same as 35ml (milliliters) with ink ready to be used. We've been using this very ink for over a year now, and even though old, 30+ years, the ink is still useable and very fountain pen friendly, easily washable and does no damage to any fountain pen. The ink produces a nice vivid Royal Blue color, and its simply a joy to write with. This is an original Pelikan Washable ink formula, that use to come in powder and meant to be dissolved with distilled water, so no issues with the age and easy to clean simply with water.
