Sheaffer was the largest manufacturer of desk stands for it pens in US. They made hundreds if not thousands on special desk stands for their pens. This is one of those bases. Its more then 1kg in weigh of solid granite in a creme/beige onyx like texture. The pen on it is the Sheaffer's Imperial. The base features a brass plate which is intended for the user to engrave his/hers name or a company name and can be applied with a adhesive tape to the base. The Sheaffer Imperial pen is probably one of the best looking pens in the world, with a perfect form factor and a stunning nib design. The pen design is based on the PFM "Pen For Men" model, which was phasing out at the time, as it was considered to be a bit bulky and complex. The Imperial desk pen is identical, but it features elongated body section, and instead of a touchdown filling system it features a press bladder filling system. The pen is mounted on a brass socket with can rotate in any direction with an adjustable spring loaded angle. There's no breathing hole on the socket/cap, which means the pen will stay wet and ready for use for long period of time, but it wont leak as the pen and socket from a pretty firm tight connection. The nib is smooth EF extra fine size, but if pressed gently while writing it will write medium and even broad, thus producing a great line variation. However if the pen is not pressed while writing it will produce a constant sharp extra fine line, clean with no excess ink on the paper. The nib is embedded in the pen's front section, following the form factor, giving the pen amazing look and feel. When writing with such pen, it feels as holding the nib its self, as the pen flows out from the nib. The pen and its desk stand are in NOS new old stock never used condition, perfectly preserved and functional ready to be used.
