After the success of the first Pelikan 120 launched in 1955, the Pelikan 120 type II was launched in 1973. The line was commission by Gunther Wagner to the Merz & Krell Pen Company, a company designing and producing parts and pens for various German brands, including Montblanc, Pelikan, Reform and others, also the original Senator pens manufacturer. This model was manufactured between 1973 and 1977.
The Second series has a similar shape and size as the first one, however, this series is modernized, more elegant, elongated, more reliable, and most importantly technologically more advanced.
Crisp imprints, both on the cap and ring which read "Germany" and "Pelikan 120". The pen follows a beautiful and elegant shape crafted in high-grade plastic in a beautiful contrasting green-black combination that not only gives great appeal to the pen but also physically protects it from scratches. Another stylish accent is given with the gold-plated trimmings that complete the design as a whole.
It is fitted with stainless steel, gold plated, EF size nib which unlike other steel nibs doesn't feel stiff but rather smooth on the paper, and due to the high quality of the material, it won't rust or damage. Unlike the older Pelikan 120 which has one ink canal, this model has two, which provides for a better ink flow. The pen feels just right in the hand with a great feel and balance providing for the perfect flowy writing experience.

Review by Terry on 2/18/2017I bought this model pen in 1975 when I was in graduate school. It turned out to be the perfect pen for my purposes. The extra fine, clean line was perfect for all of the detail work I had to do, and I write very small.
I used the pen every day for about ten years, until it fell apart. I have spent much money since then trying to find a replacement that would live up to this standard. None of the fountain pens I have bought (not even Pelikans) met the requirements. I was discouraged.
Then I saw this "upgrade" to the 1970's vintage pen. It cost many times what I paid for the original in 1975, but I couldn't pass up the chance. I am glad that I didn't. This pen brings back the joy of writing and is all I could ask for in a pen.
They only drawback is that the "extra fine" nib is not as extra fine as the original. They said that the improvement in this iteration of the pen is a better ink flow. I never had any problems with the ink flow of the original, and found that this new pen flows too well; the line isn't really extra fine, but more medium and less clean (at least for my purposes). I tried adjusting the nib in order to get a finer line, but it didn't work. Fortunately, I still had the feeder and nib from my original pen. I replaced the new feeder and nib with the old ones, and I have my pen back!
Were it not for the disappointing line quality of the new pen, I would have given it five stars.
