Condition and information:
A very beautiful pen made in tortoise shell, very similar to Pelikan 400 pens, made by TOZ Penkala Zagreb, which was previously known as the MOSTER-PENKALA Company founded by Edmund Moster and Eduard Penkala in 1911. Moster later opened 2 more plants, one in Berlin Germany. They made some astonishing pens and pencils, and Moster had developed 3 patents for writing instruments. He worked with his German partner and set the foundation for what was to become one of the most successful pen companies in South East Europe. After the Yugoslavia was unified and socialized, the Penkala company was nationalized and TOZ (Tvornica Olovaka Zagreb) was created.

We rarely see such a beautiful celluloid brown tortoise shell made by someone else than Pelikan. The pen bares the model name "Mirna", which was one of their top lines at the time. The build quality is great, same as any German or Europe pen manufacturers. The pen has a clean design and shape, but in a compact form, with a size 4 nib, which makes it feel great in the hand. The materials are some of the highest quality in that era, form ebonite to hard rubber and celluloid, giving the pen nice gloss, shine and patina. The pen has a capped piston which has its original silicone cork, functions smoothly and fills the pen to the top each time. The capped piston turning knob was a feature first introduced by Kaweco in the 1930, it is basically a safety feature as no accidental turning of the knob is possible, hence no accidental ink spills. The celluloid body is nearly transparent, and one can read the ink level through it. The burgundy red cap, section and turning knob are nice touch and go well with the theme of the pen, but unmistakably remind of the legendary Pelikan 101N with RHR cap and turning knob. There is also a "F" imprint on the top of the body right under the turning knob, showing the nib size.

The nib is one of the softest nibs we have used recently. It is its original of the pen as it was then sold, a Peter Bock 14K fine nib. Peter Bock nibs were used by many if not most of the German pen manufacturers at the time, and possibly most manufacturers in Europe, including Senator, Pelikan, Reform and others. Croatia even though was a socialist country at the time, could import and do business with many of the western countries including German pen manufacturers, even some of Montblanc and Pelikan pen designs were shared with and made by TOZ Penkala from Croatia. Peter Bock are still firmly in the nib business, being one of the largest nib manufacturers in the world even by this day. The nib is so soft, it will take some time to get used to, nearly as a paint brush. It will write bigger sizes up to 3B broad easily, depending on the pressure applied. The pen is ergonomic, sleek, feels nice in the hand, and very easy to use, fill and clean. It stood the test of time as well as some of the best pens in the world. The pen is in absolute mint condition, perfectly preserved and ready to write.
