The M100-200 series were first introduced in the mid 1980, ushering Pelikan into a new era. The M series were introduced to succeed pens such as the 120, 140, 400s and so on. Much of the pen design had changed, and much of the conventional wisdom in engineering would stay always based on the best know-how and quality as only Pelikan can make.
 
The pen is superb in any way, perfect writer, perfect feel in the hand, grip and extremely well balanced, with beautiful ink window; smooth piston taking the design from the earlier Pelikan pens. It feels nice in the hand, and even better when posted.
 
Pelikan decided that the true low cost fountain pen such as the 120 model is the way to go, even in the 80s and ever since, proven by the launch of the new Pelikan 120 model a few years ago. This M line with a beautiful black crown is basically a combination of a vintage 400 and 120 pens. The M200 is nearly identical in size to the M400. The cap's crown, the clip and entire pen form factor are very similar to the 400 series, while the colors and materials are the ones from the vintage 120/140 pen designs.
 
The highly processed plastic resin material gives it a perfect shine and gloss. The nib is steel, originally was gold plated, however these were atoms thin electroplated and the gold often wears off. The size is M Medium but it does not feel stiff, producing wonderful writing, great for long and demanding work on any paper.
 
This particular pen was made between the period since its introduction, 1997 and 2003. How do we know? It bears two Pelikan chicks on the logo, as opposed to one, when the logo changed in 2003.
 
The pen is in mint condition with minimal to no signs of use, crisp imprints on the ring, nib and best of all, the golden logo inlay on to. Highly reliable pen, easy to maintain, or swap the entire nib unit, and always ready to write. Nearly the perfect everyday pen.
