There is something very special and satisfying about the largest Pelikan pen ever made, the flagship Pelikan Souveran M1000, the pen is simply enormous in all of its dimensions and parts. Offered here is one of the earlier models, made in late 1990s to mid 2000s, distinguishable by the black captop with golden logo inlay, as opposed to the later models with gold plated captop. The pen offered here is in absolute NOS (new old stock) condition, never used, and comes in its original retail box and model tag.

The Pelikan M1000 Souveran was launched in 1997, and to its date, it is the flagship and largest pen made by Pelikan. The pen hasn't changed much over the last two decades, but there are some minor subtle differences in respect to the newer models that make a world of difference. The most obvious being the nib. Unlike some of the newer editions of M1000, this first series features a truly flexible nibs. These nibs are simply astonishing, hard to believe such a big nib can have nearly full flexibility, melting on the paper, smooth as a paint brush producing thin and thick lines of every letter. The nib will produce all sorts of lines, from F fine to a BB double and even 3B triple broad. The writing produced with such nib is amazing, with line thickness variation on every letter. Such nibs are no longer made on new fountain pens.

The pen feels as a big cigar in the hand, posted or not posted. Weighing 33gr. it is very heavy, even difficult to hold, grip or use for prolonged periods of time unless the user has very large hands. It is obviously a statement pen, meant to showcase on the desk and sign important documents. It is Pelikan pen to rival Montblanc's legendary 149 pen. Its piston is made out of solid brass, which gives it extra weight, and its thick tortoise shell is adding to that feeling. As a flagship Pelikan pen, the build quality surpasses any and all expectations. This pen is made to impress and last; very thick resin; very thick metal parts, double rings both on the cap and turning knob to prevent cracks, this pen is truly made to last forever. Very crisp colors, thick gold plating and see through tortoise shell green body, with crisp imprints on the cap "Pelikan Souveran Germany". The piston is simply effortless, since the turning knob is so large, it takes no effort to turn the piston up and down, and the pen will suck in an enormous amount of ink. The pen is massive 172mm when posted, it is one of the largest pens in the world and with barely comprehensible size 8 nib which is simply enormous. The last few photos show this pen compared to a Pelikan 120 type 2 which is considered a normal size pen; the size difference is obvious.
