Here's a beautiful vintage Montblanc Junior 622 & 692 fountain and ballpoint pen set in a NOS, never used condition, in its original box and papers.

At the time this set was made, the 1970s were the beginning of the difficult time that lay ahead of the pen industry, which had its peak in the later 1980s. Montblanc, as a company with great foresight and almost a century of history, understood it would have to tackle all market segments, which previously it hadn't in order to improve its chance of surviving the pen market slaughter that lay ahead. Some will say they had done that with the Monte Rosa line earlier in the 1960s, however that is not entirely true. Even though Mote Rosa was promoted as the entry level pen in the 1960s, it was still a high cost, high end, top product that was on-par if not surpassing even the top lines of many European pen manufacturers.

Hence, a decision was made to make a true entry point pen lines, ones that will find their way in every classroom and be in the true entry class, such as the Pelikan Pelikano series for example.

Enter the Junior line of the 1970s. There were several lines in this class alongside the Junior, such as the Carrera/Caressa.

This model comes from that time characterized by classic appeal and high build quality that all Montblanc pens have. The pens are crafted in the signature precious black resin which was and still is one of the best materials to make pens out of since it physically protects the pen and gives it a beautiful shine. The black resin in combination with the matte stainless steel makes for close to indestructible pens, meant to be tossed and dropped hundreds of times in their lifetime, by the audience they were aimed at - the students. This also goes to the stainless steel nib, even though smooth, its main idea is to be tough and difficult to damage, same as the Pelikan steel nibs from that era. The cap on the fountain pen is also unusually long, this is also to serve the main idea behind the design, toughness, i.e. the cap needs to cover as much from the body as possible in order to protect it. Slip on/off cap for fast and easy deployment. The clips are thick steel, also meant to take a lot of punishment and almost impossible to bend.

The fountain pen conveniently uses standard international cartridges, or a piston converter, and this one can contain a substantial amount of ink that will last a long time. The ball point pen comes with its original refill, but this one is dry, hence a new replacement will be included.

The ergonomically built body of both pens contributes for its perfect balance and feel in the hand. The cap can be posted giving the pen even greater balance and longer length making it an oversize pen.

All in all, great pens, extremely reliable, very though build, easy to use use and clean, true daily workhorses, as they were meant to be.
