Condition and information:
Offered here is a rare type 2 model of the Rolled Gold line also known as M30, made in early 1970s to replace the Type 1 models. The difference with the Type 1 is only in the type of the nib and front section, besides that all other parts are virtually identical. This Type 2 features a flat face 18K gold nib as opposed to the semi-hooded but rounded arrow like nib of the Type 1. The Rolled Gold line is one of the best and most reliable Pelikan pens of the early 70s. The M30 rolled gold line is a class up from the MK10/MK20 lines, these were considered one of the best at the time, made out of more refined materials such as the black resin and also featured a solid gold nib. (Some of these pens in the 60-70s bore PK30 insignia on the rings, but those were made for export only, and are identical to these pens). The pens are stunning, both in look, appeal and quality. The set offered here is in near NOS condition, comes with it original nib size sticker. These are one of the most reliable and elegant Pelikan pens, extremely well build, meant to last and endure hard work for years. It has a very beautiful clear see through purple-blue ink window and a smooth piston. It sports a rather special nib which is not made nowadays, a HF nib, standing for Hard Extra Fine or HF for Hard Fine. These nibs even though made out of 18K solid gold, (which people tend to think as being more soft as the gold is naturally much softer than metal), are actually quite opposite, the nib is super stiff. The HEF nibs were used for making carbon copies of documents and similar tasks where more pressure needed to be applied without worry that the nib will be damaged. Even though made out of 18K gold, the nib is stiff since is much thicker than some normal nibs and having a special form factor which did not allow it to bend and for the tines to come apart. This nib is difficult to damage, it is reliable and constant, it will write on any paper, and always very nice thin F fine line and it has an enhanced iridium tip. Hence it will produce amazing constant trouble free writing with constant smooth line. Piston is one of the best piston systems invented by Pelikan, consisting of 8 parts and marketed by Pelikan as Airplane safe is it won't leak ink on pressure variations. This series are very reliable, work and write perfectly. All in all, one of the best Pelikan pens of its era.
