Condition and information:

We rarely see such an extraordinary writing instruments which somehow got forgotten by time & history. Offered here is extremely rare, Herlitz Bugatti Fountain and Ballpoint pen set, which was the only flagship pen this company had for years. There's tremendous amount of history about the Herlitz paper and later stationery company that is hard to ignore. One fan fact is that this company was involved in supplying and helping the people from East Berlin for years, but sending shipments fron West Berlin over air. The company was founded in 1904, and had a much colorful and turbulent rise, but it was also at times one of the largest paper and stationery manufacturers in Germany. The company's stationery division was sold to Pelikan in 2009, but with many products it still goes under its own brand Herlitz.

The pens offered here (some collectors claim made in the late 60s), however we believe they are made in the early 80s, were their top of the line, flagship model, and they rarely made pens like these. The build quality is astonishing, to match that of Montblanc, Pelikan or any other pen manufacturer. The materials used are best there are, one can feel the quality by holding the pens, it is tangible. The pens are made out of black resin and thick 24K trimmings. The three step golden crowns on the pens are beautiful, the rings are thick and placed on the most vulnerable placed on the pen's cap and bodies, obviously a great thought and engineering had gone into the design and manufacturing these pens. Besides the rings on the cap, there's a crack prevention rings on the fountain pen's top barrel and ink window, we rarely see these features even on many well established brands. The fountain pen has a super smooth piston filling action with silicone cork, and a nice dark green ink window. It fills the pen flawlessly to the top each time. They are slightly longer pens and heavy and feel nice in the hand. The fountain pen has a good grip section curvature and lies nicely in the hand, it does not tire it. It features a slip-on cap for fast deployment and nice satisfying "click" sound when opening or closing it, no threaded cap it means it's always ready to use in seconds. The ballpoint pen has a precise omnidirectional on/off twist mechanism, meaning it can be turned on or off rotating it either to the left or right. The ballpoint has a full solid metal mechanism and inserts, making it very heavy providing good feel and balance as opposed to cheap plastic pens. It is actually even heavier than the fountain pen. The nib on the fountain pen is surprisingly nice, it is a smooth F size with some softness to it and it does not feel stiff. It writes a nice fine line, its is very smooth and even more so that it had never been used so it will adapt to its new user more quickly than other pens. Some line variation can be achieved with little pressure and angle rotation, but most importantly it is constant and does not skip. It has a nicely engraved big "B" on the face, standing for Bugatti. The set comes in its original oversize box, with the original warranty and instructions in German, as well as nice crystal clear ink bottle from Herlitz, meant to be filled with any type of ink the user wishes to. The pens are in NOS never used condition, not a scratch, perfectly preserved. These are definitely one of the often overseen great pens out there, worthy any and all attention and praise as they are simply superb pens in every respect. Timeless design, superior build quality and a true legacy form once one of the largest stationery manufacturers in Germany.
