Condition and information:
We are very proud to offer this one of the kind, very rare and one of the last Reform pens, the classic torpedo shaped, form the 1980s. This pen is one of the last Reform pens made in the mid to late 80s, soon before the company closed down in the early 1990s. The Reform company was founded in Heidelberg Germany in the early 1930s and was at one time one of the largest pen manufacturers in Europe. This is one of the very last, if not the last, fountain pen models made by Reform in late 1980s and early 1990s. This model was also made with a integrated piston, as a piston model, but the pen offered here is a converted/cartridge model made for easier use and more convenience. The pen form factor closely resembles the form of Montblanc's 144/164 fountain pens. The pen has a similar design form factor, even a two tone nib, and it is also similar in size, but this one is larger, over 141mm closed and 161mm posted, simply an oversize pen. In comparison to its predecessors, it features a wider cap ring to prevent cracks, as well as a ring on the turning knob (blind cap) which prevents cracks but also doubles as a trim. It also has a thickened section tip, larger and longer clip. Most importantly the pen is also made out of black resin, also used by many other pen manufacturers, giving it high shine and gloss. The most unique feature is the overlaid flower motif. The motif is detailed and very nice. It is also made in gold color. All metal parts/trims are gold plated. The basic classic shape feels right in the hand, it is superbly balanced pen. The nib is steel, a bit oversize nib in two tone, very smooth and on the paper, with a near ball like ending, which makes the pen very smooth and gliding over the paper. It has a nice constant ink-flow, very clean, no mess, very easy to remove and easy to maintain as it is mounted simply by pushing the feed and nib into the section (no collar); hence it can be removed simply by pulling both the nib and feed out. The pen is in mint condition, minimal signs of use, no scratches or crack. Overall the pen is one of a superb build quality that will perform flawlessly and trouble-free for decades. One of the last pens from the great Reform pen company, a piece of history and a great writing instrument.
