There are two kinds of trim of M250, depending on the year of release. In 1997 Pelikan restyled their trim levels resulting in pre-’97 and post-’97 trim variations. First group are distinguished by a derby cap top and absence of a trim ring on the turning knob. The second group pens have a crown cap top, where the company logo is imprinted, and gold trim ring at the piston knob, and a single cap band. The M250 Pelikan pen is one of the most reliable pens made by Pelikan, it embodies all of the know-how of the best Pelikan pens. The main line of the M250 featured a gold plated nib, making it more affordable, however sometimes Pelikan placed solid 14K gold nibs on this model, such as on this pen. This was done for the flagship pens, or special editions pens. The pen is made out of back resin as most high-end pens, and many parts on these pens are also made by hand. The pen is superb in any way, perfect writer, perfect feel in the hand, grip and extremely well balanced. The highly processed resin gives the pen a perfect shine and gloss but also a considerable cracks and scratches protection as the resin is much more difficult to damage then plastic. The nib the best feature of this pen, it is one of the last made DF/DEF nibs, which even when made out of 14K gold are super stiff, stiffer then some steel nibs. This is achieved by making the nib thicker but also with larger curvature and also two breathing holes. All of these features do not allow the tines to come apart when pressed, so they stay firmly together. This allows of pressing on the nib hard without worrying of any damage. At the time these were used to make carbon copies for documents, and various other uses where more stiff nibs were needed, however these days are used by artists or technical drawing where one needs constant fine line without worries of damaging the nib. A truly unique and unusual writing experience, as even the nib is stiff its still does not feel as writing with a steel nib, it has that smooth feeling that only gold can produce. The nib can be easily removed and switched with another nib for various nib sizes, these nibs are widely available. The pen is in mint condition, with minimal signs of use. Crisp imprints on the ring, nib and best of all, the green logo inlay on top.
