Markant, meaning “striking” or “distinctive” in English, was an East German Company. They live up to their name with this pen set, having produced a bold and compelling piece with a timeless classic and elegant design. This set was made in the 1970s and it was a direct response to Montblanc’s Noblesse Oblique series, being nearly identical in size, shape and form factor. The pens have a unique, very deep brushed finish, very pronounced texture, one can feel it with a hand. No other pens have such a deep brushed finish. The pens are one of the highest quality, simply indestructible, made out of thick aluminum, anodized and silver plated. Very heavy and long pens with an amazing feel and grip in the hand. The nib is a very smooth stainless steel F fine size, smooth and soft, flexing but producing a constant line, it does not feel as a stiff steel nib, quite rare feature, a very smooth writer. The nib is quite smooth, and even though it is made out of steel, it flexes for a pleasingly smooth feel and produces consistently beautiful results. The fountain pen is a cartridge filler, it uses standard international cartridges; either standard or double size but it can be also used with standard converter. A very easy to open and to maintain pen, trouble free. Both pens always shine, as no hand oli, dust or other dirt stays on the deep brushed finish. The ballpoint pen uses standard slim metal refills, and features a precise push button mechanism. New refill with color of your choice will be included with the pen. The set comes in its original sky blue velvet lined box, very very beautiful. The set is in absolute new old stock condition, truly a grand addition to any collection or a perfect every day pens. Markant was one of the few but best East Germany pen companies. There pens are rare, and with such a build quality to rival all other West German brands. In the 1980s the Markant Company was acquired by one of the larger German pen manufacturers, and Markant no longer exists. This makes this pen even more special, causing it to be extremely rare and a true piece of history, with a value that is going continue rising over time.
