Condition and information:
Launched in 1992, and produced only for 3 years until 1995, the P390 was Pelikan's attempt to appeal to the wider public with a more modern fountain pen design. The decade leading up to the 1990s was probably one of the most difficult times for the fountain pen manufacturers. What the ballpoint pen didn't destroy by then of the fountain pen market, "forgot it" and left it behind to die slowly, now that small market was left hopelessly exposed and to the mercy of the era of the computers to end the fountain pen forever. This was the decade that companies like Pelikan struggled, but still managed to stay in business and produce some amazing pens. 
 
This, the New Classic together with the Celebry line launched a few years later, was the attempt to remind us that fountain pens are still here, and even if they only need to be used as gifts. These designs were a complete departure from traditional Pelikan design, but yet, there is something amazing about these pens we cannot put our finger on. The pen seems extremely refined, sturdy, heavy, fits in the hand correctly, feels nice and solid, it's a pen that will make the user know they are using something special. The P390 is a very heavy pen, crafted entirely out of metal, and with a thick silver plated body, and gold plated trim.

The New Classic pens came in several variations, and the pen offered here is one of the flagship pens, the gold and silver plated P390 with fine Barleycorn guilloche finish texture. The pen simply shines and it's difficult to capture in photos. The pen is extremely simple to use, just stick in a cartridge or a converter and it's ready to go. Extremely easy to clean and maintain, just open it up and use tap water to flush it, and even the feed-nib section is super easy to remove, one just needs to pull them out.
 
The best thing about this pen and to our surprise is the nice, soft, joy of writing with a fully flexible nib. It's solid 18k 750 two tone gold, and will produce a wider line with the gentlest push while writing. We've managed to get up to a 1.5mm thick line, double broad and it could get even wider. It is a wet nib, always starts easily and will write with ease even at a very fast pace. This depends on the ink too, but generally any standard Pelikan 4001 ink will run nicely.

The pen comes in mint condition with no signs of use, no scratches or dings, only some minor signs of use and storage, in its original Pelikan box.
