Condition and information:
The pen offered here is the original legendary 3-42 model. This is the predecessor of the 342 pens made later, as well as the 342 Monte Rosa. When this pen was made there was no Monte Rosa Montblanc pen, rather just 3-42. The pen was made in the same period as the 142/144/146/149, and its made out of similar cellulose material. It features the old mountain range logo on the cap. It is the classic torpedo shape, and it was the smaller brother of the larger 3-44 (344) model which was made around the same time. This model is famous for its reliability, perfection in simplicity, both in design and functionality, and most importantly famous for its performance, there is nothing that can go wrong with it and its perfectly reliable. The pen has perfect form factor, superb balance, handling and feel, easy to use yet powerful and reliable writing instrument. The pen comes with a flexible "342" F Fine size nib placed on the original extremely long ebonite feed and feed ring. With just the gentlest push it can write all bigger sizes up to BB and back, thus the produced writing is simply amazing. The ski-slope feed has two ink canals which allow for the heavy ink flow. The tines split apart as soon as the nib touches the paper. The "3-42 Montblanc" is inscribed on the turning knob. Clear blue to purple ink window and the original silicone cork, one of the first Montblanc pens to feature a new generation at the time, silicone cork. Piston is smooth with brass components and a 8 star shaped cross-section spiral guided shaft, meant to last forever. Mountain top star logo located on top of the cap. The pen features a very rare and nice elongated ink window and shorter cap, making it possible for the ink level to be read even if the cap is closed, the ink window is still visible. The pen is in mint condition with some minimal signs of use, perfectly preserved for its age. Simply one of the best Montblancs of the 50s, and one of the all time best.
