The Crest models are one of the most prestigious that the Sheaffer company has produced. Pen here was part of the Sheaffer’s Color Palette line. The modern Crest design was inspired by the 1950’s Sheaffer Snorkel “Crest” pens and was paying tribute to many of the past famous Sheaffer pens. The Color Palette Programme was introduced in 1995, and the whole line was composed of sixteen finishes and some of them were from the ranges of the Sheaffer Targa, Sheaffer Fashion, Sheaffer Imperial Triumph, and Sheaffer Crest. The Crest pens represented the crown jewel of the collection.

Coming from a time when everything was about the details the pen is crafted in ultra marine blue “Nova” pattern with swirls and pastel blue dots. The Nova lacquer finish is created by more than twenty-three layers of lacquer and hand decoration on a brass cap and barrel providing for a unique look for every pen individually. The pen has a 23K gold plated cap band that reads “Sheaffer”, U.S.A. and “Gold Electroplate”. The recognizable white Sheaffer dot stands proudly on the upper part of the clip.

The pen can be a great match if you already own a 582 fountain pen or if you want to own one but you don’t want to pay the full price for a fountain pen you can simply change the rollerball section of this pen with a nib section and actually have them both. The pen has an amazing form factor, something only vintage Shaffer pens offer and yet it looks like it came out of the line yesterday proving once again that the Sheaffer company was way ahead of its time when it came to design and technology when creating a writing instrument.

It is a capped pen, meaning it can also be used posted, providing good balance and feel in the hand. When posted the pen has a length of 158 mm, which is quite longer in comparison to other pens. The brass base metal contributes for a solid pen with good balance.
The pen uses standard Sheaffer refills and the original one is provided with the pen although it can be depleted soon it can serve for future purchase reference.
The pen is a good writer with a great combination of width and heft.
