The Sheaffer “Opalite” series was launched in 1996 and was first available in Opalite Red and Marine Green and later that same year the Golden Brown color was introduced. These series brought the first Sheaffer pen which has a body made from celluloid.
Pen here is a Sheaffer Crest 598 model crafted in patterned celluloid barrel and 23K gold electroplated cap.
The solid rod of cotton-based celluloid goes through several turning machine processes in order to create the barrel which is later tapered at the end. Finally, the barrel is sanded and polished which gives the barrel its translucent yet dark look.
The cap is distinguished by the guilloche four straight lines design with a blank space between them which differs from other Crest models which have single-lined patterns on the caps.
The unique red marbled color of the barrel and the gold hues of the cap complement each other perfectly.
The pen has a 23K gold plated cap band that reads “Sheaffer”, "U.S.A." and “Gold Electroplate”. The clip is inlaid with the iconic white Sheaffer dot.

The pen uses a reliable twist mechanism that is located between the grip and the barrel, and the refill tip comes out when you twist the grip.
It uses a Sheaffer ballpoint refill and we will provide you with an original one in blue color.
The barrel is lightweight compared to other models with brass constructed barrels which contributes for a good feel in the hand and prevents from getting the tiring fatigue feel while writing.
