Having spent nearly two decades in the pen business, it takes something really special to get us really excited, moving from office to office talking about a particular pen and joyfully admiring and examining it! This is such a pen! It has such a refreshing design and functionalities that make us feel... "the pen world is moving forward and it's doing just fine"!
This Montblanc M, designed by Marc Newson launched in 2015 and it's really a unique pen. At first glance it doesn't give out too much, it looks like an unconventional design and that's it. However once the user holds it and starts using it, they will start to discover its unique appeal and feel.
This is the first generation M Collection pen, and it's made out of shiny Precious Black Resin. The shine is difficult to capture in photos. Unlike the second edition M Collection pen which is called the "Ultra Black" as it's matte-finished and launched in 2017.
The plateau at the back of the barrel is an amazing looking feature. It's so precisely flat that it sort of resembles a glass surface, it will reflect the light that falls on it as a mirror.
The front grip section is super heavy and thick. It's solid steel, anodized finished in an anthracite-gunmetal color. It's extremely finely knurled in a radial ring-like pattern and just feels super solid and secure in the hand.
The back resin body and cap are thicker than usual, this also provides for a solid "well-made" feeling.

The most joyful feature however is the magnet cap closing system. There is a strong magnet in the bottom of the cap, which when closing the cap will align the cap's clip with the plateau on the barrel and position the cap in that direction only. The user only needs to do the final push and enjoy the fine "click" sound. The cap will always align itself properly with the barrel and the section will "pull in the cap". The cap on this model cannot be posted, but since the pen is heavy and long, it's not really necessary.
On the second edition pen, the matte Ultra Black pen, there is also a magnetic insert in the back of the barrel which allows for the cap to be magnetically posted too. 
There is a very tiny serial number located on the clip.
The pouch is for one pen only, but it can fit two slimmer pens, such as the Montblanc Noblesse series. Simply an astonishing and unique writing instrument by Montblanc, an amazing technical achievement and rightfully deserving all of the hype and attention it received since its launch in 2015.

The pen is in pristine condition, lightly used but without any scratches or wear, as new, and it comes in a Siena Meisterstuck black cowhide pouch as it was originally purchased.
