Condition and information:
Offered here is the 1951/52 original first series Pelikan model 400 ("No bloody N, NN or M" as Mr. Scotty would like to say). This series was launched to replace the Ibis and the original 100 model, and became one of the most recognizable, reliable, sought after Pelikan pens of all time. This is the only pen that had 4 successor models, the rare 400N, the more common 400NN, the M400 from 1982 and even the new Souveran lines 400, 600, 800, 1000 form factor are based on this pen. This is not by coincidence, the pen has a nearly perfect form factor and balance, it simply feels right in the hand. Even though it's 125mm long, it feels as a large pen, and when the cap is posted, it provides for that perfect Pelikan writing balance. It is a thick pen, the size and form factor on the grip section are still the basis of today's Pelikan pens. Most people are not aware, that the nib-feed unit, more precisely the feed ring, is nearly identical to all Pelikan pens after this one, i.e. the 120/140 all 400 models, most of M line models up to this very date. The thread step and size of the feed ring is identical. This means one can use this entire feed unit on some modern Pelikans and vice-versa. Imagine what kind a pen company features such standards that are so good that do not need to change nearly 70 years later - only Pelikan! The pen features a very rare, clear face stunning EF Extra Fine size nib. These 50s Pelikan nibs are simply astonishing, grabbing and melting on the paper, smooth as a paint brush. The nib will produce all sorts of line variations, depending on the pressure and angle in respect to the paper, can vary from EF extra fine size to a triple broad and even wider on the down strokes. This will produce amazing writing, the best one could hope to achieve with a fountain pen. The nib is suspended on the original ebonite feed which provides for perfect ink flow and consistency with wide ink canal. The piston is smooth, takes a considerable amount of ink. It has its original silicone cork which replaced the original wood corks from the 1940s and even to this day it does not require replacement or maintenance - that is the utmost Pelikan - German quality pen. Fully filled with ink, the pen can write for quite some time. Very colorful high gloss tortoise shell body clear and translucent; thick  gold filled clip, ring and cap ring, gold wear off is unlikely. Logo located on top of the cap. The 400 model is the most refined and some of the longest produced model of all Pelikan pens. This is the Pelikan flagship pen for years, all luxurious models were based on this model. One of the best vintage Pelikan pens ever made.  The pen is in mint condition with minimal signs of use, no scratches, no cracks or marks of any kind, perfectly preserved!
