Condition and information:
Senator always experimented with some of the most daring pen designs we have seen. The pen here is one of those super daring products that combines fountain and ballpoint into one pen! Many companies had attempted this combinations, but there were only few actual products ever launched. This was especially the case when the ballpoint became more popular in the 60s and 70s. The pen offered here seems to overcome many of the challenges with combining these to pens and it is indeed a very unique, and fully functional and capable pen.

The fountain pen is a classic cartridge filling pen, with its entire front grip section found on several Senator pens from this era. The fountain pen uses standard international cartridges, so very easy and convenient to fill and use. It features a very nice, large solid 14K nib, fine size, very smooth on the paper writing a nice constant line. This section can be easily cleaned and disassembled, even the nib can be easily pulled out to rinse the feed with water. The section is screwed on to the middle part/joint which holds the ballpoint pen mechanism, and this is where the ingenuity comes. This middle part also holds the refill and the thread on which the ballpoint barrel is screwed on. Instead of placing this thread on the middle of the pen same as to where the grip section is screwed on, the thread is located on the tip of this part, and screws inside another insert inside the bottom of the ballpoint pen barrel. This solves the problem with the fountain & ballpoint combination, i.e. the thickness and length the combined pen, as it would have to accommodate both a cartridge and a refill. Here Senator uses a non-standard A2 size refill but shorter. Since these refills are very difficult to come by nowadays, we will fashion two refills made out of A2 standard just cut in length. Hence one can still use the ballpoint pen since A2 refills are easy to come by.

Due to its size and thickness and the material from which is made, the pen is very heavy, feels nice and solid in the hand. The cap can be posted on ballpoint pen side the deeply brushed surface makes it non-slippery and always clean looking. The pen is all silver plated, similar to the Pelikan Silvexa models. The pen comes in mint condition, perfectly preserved. Comes with its original ballpoint refill, as well 2 A2 Schneider refills cut to length which will work with this pen and should be used for reference as how to fashion this refill in the future. We will also include a 6 pack cartridges for the fountain pen part.
