Offered here is a very rare pen, made by one of Europe's lesser known brands, but loved in Denmark, the Penol pen company. The Danish Penol pen company was established in 1928. Some of their earlier pens were lever filling fountain pens and lead pencils. We believe this pen was one of their first push button fillers, as it has all of those early years clues, probably made in the early to mid 1930s. This was a pen definitely made before the late 30s and early 40s when the piston filler got its full swing around Europe. The President line was Penol's top line flagship pen at the time. There is a small number 8 engraved under the President inscription, we believe this is the pen's model number. It is a fat and masculine pen, with full 15mm diameter at the caps ring, and 151mm when posted, its an imposing big pen. The body of the pen must be one of the most beautiful celluloid works we have seen. It has that reddish amber color transparent body, with a unique crisp zigzag Herringbone like pattern. Another astonishing feature is its nib form. It has almost cartoonish/caricaturish form, with unusually extended tines, as if an artist would draw a fountain pen nib. The nib is fully flexible, it is smooth and gliding on the paper. Those extended tines give a special feeling that we've havent seen on a fountain pen before, they are thin and extended giving the feeling as writing from a distance, giving an unobstructed view on the paper below, as if the pen is retracted towards the user. The pen is fitted with a new sack, one of the largest we've used on a pen, with enormous in capacity. The pen fills as it should with its original P pressure bar still intact. The pen is in good condition, there are some visible signs of use, some scratches and minor dings, but most importantly there are no cracks or deformations. This is one extremely well built pen by special pen company which we don't see much from, a truly rare specimen with beautiful design, worth any collection and a true joy for daily use! More about the history of the Penol company can be found here, including an amazing Penol pen collection photos.
