During the 70s and the 80s, the Parker 75 model was an unmatched bestseller pen. The Parker company decided that they needed a new model that would have even greater success in the 90s. Having that in mind they commissioned Hollington Associates from London and the chief designer Geoff Hollington designed the Insignia and Sonnet lines for them. The Sonnet line was marketed as a line with precision-crafted, high-performance writing instruments based on an ergonomic design.
The Sonnet line included 18 beautiful designs and finishes.
Pen offered here is a 90’s vintage Parker fountain pen which unlike the newer models with the wideband is characterized with a tinner ring on the cap and has the inscriptions located on the side which read “ Parker”, “Sonnet” and “France”. The Parker company used date codes to mark their writing instruments, this pen, in particular, is marked with “IP’ which means that it dates back from 1997.
This pen has a justified place in this collection with its beautiful design, good quality materials, and great performance built to last. The clip is shaped in the recognizable Parker Company emblem, the arrow.
The pen is crafted in shiny thick lacquer in “Forest Green” finish over the solid steel base with gold plated trimmings which combined together contribute to an elegant yet sturdy pen. The lacquer gives the pen an amazing shine and depending on the light it is exposed to the pattern changes its color.
The pen is ergonomically well built and follows a classic cigar shape. The slip on-off cap of the pen produces a distinctive click sound when being closed, it posts very nicely giving the pen longer length and balance while writing.
The pen is fitted with a solid steel gold plated M medium sized nib. The nib feels very gentle and smooth on the paper as opposed to other steel nibs which typically tend to feel stiff. The pen is a good precise writer with a constant ink flow producing beautiful writing. Due to its steel body, the pen is heavy which contributes for its great balance and feel in the hand while writing.
The pen is a cartridge filler and it can be used with standard Sheaffer cartridges or an ink converter if the user wants to fill the pen directly from an ink bottle.
A gorgeous vintage fountain pen with great performance and appeal for true lovers of authentic fountain pens.
The pen comes in mint condition with minimal signs of use.
