Condition and information:

Since early 1930's, Kaweco had three luxurious lines. The first one was the Elite, followed by the DIA, and the third was the Helios Transparent line, each was special in its own way with separate special features. The pen offered here is the DIA luxury line, model 90M, the biggest Kaweco pen at the time. This line was launched in 1934 and this pen was produced around 1935-1937. The build quality is amazing. This is one of the first pistons with stationaly turning knob and a brass spiral. In the late 1930's all Kaweco pens were sold with minimum of 25 year guarantee and on some pens like the one here, they were sold with a life time warranty. Having this pen here for sale elegantly proves thier confidence in the pen's quality, this is a 80+ year old pen, still performing like the day it was purchased. The pen is made out of celluloid it is oversize, thick and heavy, perfectly balanced pen and with great feel and grip. The nib huge, oversize and fully-flexible, melting on the paper with no pressure applied, solid 14K 585 gold, F fine size, sharp but smooth, and with little to no pressure will write all bigger sizes. Kawco made some of the best flexible nibs. The piston system is great and features a safety turning knob cap, this was done to ensure no accidental turns on the knob, thus avoiding ink leaks. We have fitted the pen with two O rubber rings to replace the old cork. This is a new improvement for old  cork piston pens, its much mor reliable and will not require a cork change ever again. Pens with O rings fill much better, keep the ink much better and do not leak or squeak when operated. The pen has a stunning reddish amber like ink window. Simply an amazing pen by Kaweco, with superior build quality.

More about Kaweco History:
These were the times when Montblanc, Pelikan or other European pen makers, would look at a Kaweco pen first before making their own. Kaweco at this time was THE biggest pen manufacturer is Europe and they stood out from the competition as they made the highest quality and best designed pens at the time. The company was founded in 1883 by two friends Luce Koch and Enßlen Weber in Heidelberger Germany, as Koch Weber & CO, thus KA WE CO. They had a great start and up to 1929 they had several thousand employees, with revenue at over a million DM. However, in 1929, the same year Pelikan patented their piston filler, Kaweco filed for bankruptcy, unbelievably as they could not sustain their enormous growth. A considerably smaller fountain pen company known as Aurumia, bought the Kaweco factory, and decided to use the same name, Kaweco, as it was well known and admired by the people. Thus Kaweco thrived once again. By the end of the 40's Kaweco had at least one major retail store in all bigger cities, from London to Istanbul, and this was not the case with any other manufacturer in Europe. Kaweco made some of the most luxurious pens in Europe, the most expensive and high end pens, with extraordinarily build quality. Vintage Kaweco pens are some of the most desired and enjoyed among pen collectors.
