Condition and information:
The pen offered here is the flagship Kaweco pen at the time, to rival Montblanc's Masterpiece models. It is identical to the 37 model, the only difference is the hooded nib and section, everything else is virtually identical. It was launched few years after the 37 model. In the Kaweco pen model nomenclature, "V" stands for hooded nib. It's also one of the biggest Kaweco pens, its 135mm long when closed and posted at 158mm, slightly bigger than the No.37 when posted. It also features a airtight socket/slot placed within the cap, which made it more secure to bring on airplanes than it exposed nib counterpart. Kaweco V71 is a masterpiece of engineering. One look and use of the pen, reveals to the user the astonishing attention to detail and the quality of the materials used into making this instrument. The piston has a unique differential system, making it very easy to assemble and disassemble, while providing large ink capacity and being compact. The double rings on the cap extend inwards inside the cap as a metal slot, making it difficult to crack, i.e. protecting one of the most vulnerable places on every capped pen. There is also a anti-crack ring on the turning knob. Together with the design which is quite out of the ordinary, with two separate body widths, give the pen extraordinary grip, handling, balance and feel in the hand. The build quality is astonishing, its entirely made out of black resin that gives the pen a unique shine. This is the best material to make pens from, it feels natural, it does not scratch easily and always shines as new. The pen is in mint near new old stock never used condition. The nib is semi hooded, EF size and with some decent flexibility, soft and smooth on the paper. With a gentle push while writing it will write bigger sizes such as F, M and even B broad. All trimmings are gold filled, including the logo which is located on the top of the cap. Piston works perfectly, smooth and easy and takes an good amount of ink, so once filled it will last for a while. The pen is efficient, practical, well balanced, with superb form factor, astonishing nib, and very reliable and easy to handle, with unique design and appeal, simply one of the best Kaweco pens ever made!
