Montblanc model 281 ballpoint pen is an early 80s production, even though launched in the mid-1970s, featuring the famous lever mechanism. This pen is the successor of the previous generation from the early 60s which bore the number 28.
This was one of the high-end ballpoint pens at the time to match the 2xx fountain pen series.
The Montblanc patented mechanism, also known as the "11th finger mechanism", is a special design feature where a lever is located under the clip, thus when the pen is placed i.e. hanged into a pocket the pocket fabric passing under the clip will push the lever up and turn the pen off. This is a very convenient feature that makes sure the hanged pen will always turn itself off, thus preventing incidental line marks on the jacket fabric (especially a good feature for people in white coats). The pen is made out of the Montblanc signature material, the Black Resin, which gives the pen a nice luster and shine, but it's also scratch-resistant.
The mechanism is a joy to use, very easy, pushing the lever down will turn the pen on; pushing it up or hanging it into the pocket will turn it off. It is a very precise mechanism, easy and fast to deploy with a very nice distinct clicking sound.
All trimmings are thick gold plated so gold wear off is very unlikely. Large Montblanc star located on top of the pen.
 
The original Montblanc giant refill is included and a perfectly functional, smooth writer, with a nice blue M medium line. Since this is a vintage pen, we cannot be sure how long the refill will last, but from the looks of it, it seems as only lightly used. However, we include an easy DIY step by step guide of how to convert any A2 standard international size refill to fit this pen and operate without any issues. This solves a decades-long problem of how to use this pen which uses refills that are no longer in production. Our solution takes only seconds to do and uses readily available A2 refills.
 
The pen is in mint condition with no signs of use, mirror-like finish, not a scratch on it, perfect working and cosmetic condition ready to be used.
