This is what happens when Rotring designs a fountain pen after a while, or probably after not being allowed to. Until 1982 Rotring was owned in great part by Pelikan, so its no secret that they didn't manufacture that many or any fountain pens. Probably since Pelikan didn't want to establish Rotring as a brand that will mingle their great engineering minds in that sector. However in 1982 Pelikan had some turmoil and Rotring was able to buy back most of its shares and thus gain independence. So this is the pen they decided to celebrate that freedom with. Its creatively named Renaissance, this definitely can mean only two things, or even both simultaneously; as the company's Renaissance or Renaissance of the fountain pen. Whatever they meant, they've done it! The Rotring company is a pen cult company now, and probably always was. And this pen has to be the epiphany of fountain pen design philosophy in the 1980s. The pen simply has a perfect from factor, it reminds very much to the high end Reform 4383 pens, it even has the same feed ring, it would be nice to know how this collaboration with Reform happened. The pen also resembles some of the Montblanc 1960s-70s Monte Rosa pens, but this pen has some special appeal, some special form-factor, feel and look. The pen is made out of black resin, simply shines, thick gold plated clip and ring, and the awesome red band under the turning knob. Most spectacular part is the nib, pure OB oblique broad that produces really amazing wiring, from thick to thin lines on each stroke, something professional calligraphers like to use. The line variation is simply achieved by writing, as the direction to which the nib moves, up, down, left, or right, changes the thickness of the line. However one can also make a slight changes of the angle of which the pen is held, and this will produce even larger line variation. Anything written with this nib will look super special, simply amazing writing. The pen is in NOS, new old stock never used. It's probably not overstatement to say, this may be the best Rotring fountain pen ever made.
