The ultimate Montblanc flagship pen, the 149 model, and here in its best production period of the early 80s. The 149 model must be one of the most recognizable pens in the entire world, there's hardly any diplomatic/state signing without a Montblanc 149 pen. This model had been around for 60+ years, and has barely changed its form factor since then. It went through at least 5 production series, starting from the 50's till today, and by many collectors the 80's edition is one of the best, made out of the best materials and its proven to be the most reliable trouble free model. Here the pen comes in an even rarer form, originally made with a breathtaking desk base with a factory mounted cap. The base is hard to describe, its made out of black resin, same as the pen, but its monolithic form gives it a stunning deep black look, somehow reminds to the Monolith from 2001 A Space Odyssey. It's mirror like finish reflects the cap and the pen, simply stunning. Both the pen and the base are in absolute mint condition, near NOS, barely used, no scratches or anything of the kind. The pen is mechanically flawless, piston is made out of solid brass with silicone cork, anti-corrosive, takes enormous amount of ink and works perfectly smooth. The pen is perfectly balanced even without a cap, feels right in the hand, and due to its size and weight, glides over the paper. The nib is extremely large, two tone and with full flex, very unusual as there are hardly any 149s with flexible nibs. Its rared as F and will write up to triple broad 3B with tiny amount of pressure. This will produce some of the best fountain pen writing possible, with thin and thick lines of every stroke. There is a "149" engraving on the base of the nib, rarely found on later 149 models. Ebonite feed ensures a constant non-drying ink flow. Even though this is a desk pen, the pen is not just placed into the cap like on many other desk pens, rather its a screw-on tread fitted with the cap. This allows for a very tight pen-cap fit and closure, and thus not allowing the ink to drip or dry inside the cap. The gold plate on the desk base is intended for name to be engraved on it should the owner choose to. The base has a very soft fabric bottom in order to protect the desk from scratches.  Crisp inscriptions and markings, "Montblanc Meisterstuck 149" inscribed on the cap ring, perfectly clean, simply stunning Montblanc flagship pen. These were made in such few limited numbers, that are nearly considered limited editions, they hardly come out for sale and are sure to gain considerable value over time.
