During the 70s and the 80s, the Parker 75 model was an unmatched bestseller pen. The Parker company decided that they needed a new model that would have even greater success in the 90s. Having that in mind they commissioned Hollington Associates from London and the chief designer Geoff Hollington designed the Insignia and Sonnet lines for them.
The Sonnet line was marketed as a line with precision-crafted, high-performance writing instruments based on an ergonomic design.
When the Sonnet line was introduced in 1994 it was offered in eighteen finishes: Fougére, Athenes, Chinese Laque Vision Foncé, Chinese Laque Ambre, Cicelé, Cascade Gold, Cascade Silver, Laque Indigo, Laque Moonbeam, Laque Firedance, Laque Solid Black, Dimonite G, Laque Autumn red, Laque Forest Green, Laque Midnight Blue, Matte Black, Flighter GT, and Flighter CT.
Listed here is a Parker Sonnet mechanical pencil which is an early version characterized by a thin upper body band.
The pencil is crafted in a solid metal body covered in 18K gold plate. It is designed in a beautiful guilloche pattern called Cascade. The pencil features a beautiful gold plated tassie and clip. The clip is made in the recognizable arrow shape which is Parker’s trademark representing their pioneering attitude, heritage, and rich history. Another stylish accent is given to the pencil with the black insert at the top designed in concentric circles.

The upper body features nice crisp engravings with the Parker branding name, logo, and “France”.
The Parker company uses date codes to mark their writing instruments. This pencil, in particular, has an IIL date code engraved on it which means that it dates back from 1993. The pencil also features an engraved sign with two “P” letters and an arrow which represents Parker Maker's Mark and it means that this pencil is made by Parker Pen Company, France.
