Pelikan 450, 1.18mm Repeater Mechanical Pencil

This is the first production of the original legendary Pelikan 450 mechanical pencil, made in the mid 1950s, one of the best build quality pencils of all time. The body is thick, it is thicker then its similar version the 350 model (please see last two photos). It is made out of celluloid. The pencil is precise and responsive with nice smooth clicks. The quality and complexity of its build are superb. The mechanism is made out dozens of solid metal components (brass & steel) and the precision is astonishing. Often unknown feature of these pencils is the visual cue the pencil provides when it has a lead inside the tip or when it doesn't, i.e. is it ready to write or not without even touching it or pressing the push button. When there's a lead in the tip, the push button on the top of the pencil stays just a bit retracted inside the body, as the front tip of the pen stays extruded just a slight bit in front of the cone shaped brass tip. If there is no lead stick in the front tip; then that part retracts completely inside the front brass tip and the push button extrudes back with it and comes to its normal position. This is just one of the examples how far engineers went to design the perfect writing instruments in the past. 
 
The pencil features a nice imprint on the top right under the clip's rings "PELIKAN 450 GUNTHER WAGNER GERMANY", honoring the founder of the company, which is rare imprint on these pencils. Extremely well build, tough mechanical brass components, meant to last. Great looks with gold filled metal parts that won't wear out as gold plated can do. Great feel in the hand, very heavy and thick, great handling, balance and writing experience. The pencil uses 1.18 leads, and it has precision push button solid brass mechanism. With such thick lead refills the refill can be deployed 2-3mm out from the tip, which provides the user with a better viewing space and precision while drawing or writing. 128mm in length; Mint condition, no cracks or scratches, ready to be used.
