Markant, meaning “striking ” or “distinctive ” in English, was an East German pen company. They live up to their name with this pen, having produced a bold and compelling piece with a timeless classic and elegant design.
This pen was made in the 1980s and it was a direct response to Montblanc’s Noblesse Oblique series, being nearly identical in size, shape and form factor, even the nib is strikingly similar in form. The pen features a unique, very deep brushed finish, very pronounced texture, one can feel it in the hand.
The build quality is amazing, made out of thick aluminum, anodized and most likely plated with some silver color precious metal. It is a very heavy and long pen, with a superb feel and grip in the hand.

The nib is a very smooth stainless steel medium to broad size, somewhat closer to B broad. However it is surprisingly flexible for a steel nib, it just melts on the paper with the lightest pressure, the nib just dances on the paper. This will produce some amazing writing, one can even hover over the paper to produce finer lines, and with the lightest pressure produce much thicker lines. This means that every written letter, every stroke will produce a variable thickness line. The nib is also quite smooth. This flexibility is rare, and especially even more so on steel nibs. The nib is inclined at a slight angle towards the paper. This is made possible by the rubbery material feed which can bend and follow the curvature of the nib. This contributes to an unusual but very nice writing experience.
The pen is a cartridge filler, it uses standard international cartridges; either standard or double size but it can be also used with a standard converter. Very easy to open and to clean and maintain a pen, trouble-free. It posts very nicely with a nice click sound. It is a solid pen, and it feels like that in the hand. Due to the nice brush finish, it gives out nice reflections, and the brushed surface does not show fingerprints.

The pen is in absolute mint condition, with no scratches or dings, a perfectly preserved piece of long lost East German pen manufacturing history.
