Markant, meaning “striking” or “distinctive” in English, was an East German Company. They live up to their name with this pen one of the most unique multi color ballpoint pens from that era. The pen is oversize at almost 150mm, with a very long front section and a brushed aluminum upper section. The pen features the so called gyro mechanism, where simply by facing the desired color upwards, when the push button is pressed, that color will be activated. By pressing the button half way any refill is deactivated/retracted, and pressing it full way the refill is activated/deployed. This is why the pen has an unusually long push button. The mechanism is solid brass, very precise and smooth. Markant pens are one of the highest quality. Markant was one of the few but best East Germany pen companies. Markant pens are rare, and with such a build quality they rival all other West German brands. In the 1980s the Markant Company was acquired by one of the larger German pen manufacturers, and Markant no longer exists. This makes this pen even more special, causing it to be extremely rare and a true piece of history, with a value that is going continue rising over time.  The pen is in absolute new old stock condition, a perfect every day multi color ballpoint pen.
