This is a rare pen by the famous Soyuz company, model "Moscow 80" celebrating the USSR's Capital city in the 80s. The Soyuz company is famous for its super high quality designs and pens, but also rather notorious mainly for its not so rare blunt copies, rather its own interpretations on some of the most famous western pens at the times, such as Parker 51, many Montblanc and Pelikan models and other brands. The pen here is such an example. It is closely based on the design from the late 60s and early 70s Montblanc's 22 & 24 models. The form factor is nearly identical, together with the capping system and ink window. However the similarities end there as in many aspects they made great improvements in the pen filling mechanism and other aspects. The factory was stationed at Saint Petersburg, it was the only Soviet company at the time manufacturing ultra-high quality writing instruments, and their pens represent a response to the many European and American manufacturers at the time. The difference between Soyuz and the manufacturers in Europe and USA is that this company was not saving on materials, they used as much as they needed, as it was basically free to get precious metals, stones and other materials should they needed them. The pen offered here is one of the higher end pens at the time, made in the early 80s at the peak of the Soviet manufacturing power. The pen features a unique integrated piston converter, which is capped by the whole body section. The piston is fitted with a silicone cork and its very smooth and fills nicely. Due to the whole steel construction it is very heavy with great grip and balance, it is also nearly indestructible, a very sturdy tough build pen. The nib is highly flexible, full 14K solid gold wing nib, fully flexible it will write all bigger sizes with the slitels push while writing. It has great ink flow and its smooth on the paper. The pen is in mint condition with minimal signs of use. All in all a superb writing instrument and a great piece of history in what was then high-end Soviet pen manufacturing.
