Manufacturer/Model: Aurora Italy/88K Year of production: Mid 50's Filling system: Piston filler with fixed turning knob (double action tread system) Nib: Solid 14K 585 gold, Extra Fine EF, wet nib Material: All body cellulose, cap gold filled Length (pen closed): Long at 137mm, posted at 147 Condition and information: One of Italy's best pen manufacturers, Aurora, and here is one of the theirs most famous models, the vintage original 88K model, produced in the early to mid 50's. Collectors compare this model to the Parker 51 pen, but as many things done in Italy, this pen simply surpasses the 51 in almost all things. Some argue this is the pen with the purest and most elegant form factor, fits in the hand as it was meant to be, with a perfect feel, weight, handling and grip. The pen is elegant, stylish, with gorgeous colors, translucent cellulose body with yellowish/redish ink window, gold filled cap, and hidden beautifully crafted wing nib, stationary turning knob (the knob turns but does not unscrew to distance from the body, its stationary in the long axis). The ink window has actually a red amber color, the flash makes it look more to the yellow side. The pen is in absolute mint condition, no scratches, no cracks, no dings, no gold ware off. Very nice and crisp engravings, serial number 2520271 Italy - Aurora 88K, all original parts, even the cork. The cork is restored, so it will not leak like many older 88K models. Easy to open front section for easy cleaning of the nib section and piston. Easy to deploy, with a slip on/off cap. The nib is EF to F size, but wet, great for fast and continuous writing. The piston takes an enormous amount of ink, great for taking the pen on a trip without an ink bottle. One of the most beautiful and great fountain pens of Italy, the original Aurora 88K. |
