Condition and information:
The pen offered here is the very very first series Montblanc 144 Masterpiece (Meisterstuck) pen, never restored, originally preserved. This pen as all 50's 144 was originally back, however over time, some of these 50's pens loose the black color which was applied from the inside, so they become nearly transparent, as a demonstrator pen. We don't consider this to be a drawback, on the contrary this makes the pen simply stunning, with a deep reddish color transparency, simply amazing! Aside from the transparency, the pen is perfect condition, no cracks, no scratches, only minimal sings of use. This pen is the true first line of 144's, distinguishable by the long ink windows. Only the first line 144 had this feature, later lines had a short ink window. The long ink window is still visible. If there is pen with a perfect balance, perfect form factor, perfect feel and writing experience, perfect appeal and quality, perfect for any job, this would be it. Many people argue that many other Montblanc Meisterstuck sizes (142/146/149) seem either bit too big or bit too small, some heavy, some light, some thick, some thin, but the 144 is the perfect pen. There is nothing like these Celluloid 1950's Montblanc pens. The build quality is amazing with stunning depth of colors, amber like dark red, immense attention to detail but also design as "form follows function", and these pens were all made by hand by master craftsman. Its almost impossible to believe that such pens were made more then 60 years ago. The walls of both the body and cap are very thick, very heavy, and since the pen is transparent, the piston action is clearly visible. This together with the most amazing piston system, makes the pen very heavy. Solid steel and brass 3 stage/fold telescopic piston, which is heavy and gives the pen the amazing balance and sturdiness. This telescopic system will simply never fail. This piston system makes it as compact as possible so all the parts that comprise it retract like vintage spyglasses inside the pen, thus there is much more space in the barrel for ink. This system is so complex and expensive to make, that new Montblanc pens, even the 149 don't have it. Unlike the newer models, the celluloid will not crack, dent or scratch, it is much more shock absorbent then the newer resin pens. The pen is in absolute mint condition, with minimal signs of use, never restored or repaired, with all its original parts. When buying such pen from UberPens you get the latest and best; i.e. we've fitted a new double "O" rubber rings, which replaces the old wooden cork, so no more messing around with replacing corks. Unlike the wood cork which squeaks and wares out over time, the rubber O ring does not ware out, is much smoother and will last for another 50 years. The O ring piston is completely leak proof. The ebonite feed has a very good ink-flow due to the two feed canals need to supply this super wet OBB nib! The nib is a masterpiece, the star of the show, oblique double broad OBB size, extremely rare, which produces some fantastic writing. It has a semi-flexibility, but since its oblique the side and angled strokes are slim and the down strokes are super thick. The pen can produce lines up to OBBB oblique triple broad. Such nibs are not produced any longer, so enjoying one is a real sensation. Depending on the way its held and the writing style this pen produces some of best writing one could hope to achieve with a fountain pen. This is not a pen for a small letter writing or a pocket notebook writing, rather its for a big canvas as it glides over the paper and drinks entire bottle of ink when it sees a white piece of paper. There are the proper markings on the nib "144" and "144" on the turning knob as well as "OBB". The cap's rings are tiny bit loose, but this is found on many 1950's 144's, its nothing compromising as they perform their anti-cracking function perfectly. The trimmings and the clip unlike the newer models are thick gold filled, so no gold ware off will ever occur. The yellowish ivory like star is amazing with a distinct vintage appeal to it. As the word implies, this is the Montblanc Masterpiece pen in any respect.
