In mid-1979 the Pelikan company presented the new Signum line, the shape of which was inspired by the designs from the Ulm School. The school was established after the war as a new design school with a focus on objects we use daily. It takes its fundaments from the Bauhaus style, which represents a combination of functional and practical style and design.
The models in the Signum line were characterized with a slim silhouette and were aiming for the adult users of writing instruments.
The pens featured a black section and body and nib crafted in a high-quality steel.
Pen here is part of that line and it is a Pelikan Signum 520 model which is distinctive by the recognizable Pelikan logo with two chicks located right above the clip. The pen follows an elegant and slim silhouette that is finished with flat black inserts on the top and the bottom of the pen.
The cap features nice crisp engravings with the Pelikan branding name, “Germany” and the size of the nib.

The pen features a slip-on/off cap with a nice firm action and a distinctive click sound when closing. Due to its substantial weight, the cap gives a nice balance to the pen when posted.
The pen is fitted with a nice solid F fine size steel nib. The nib features a nice engraving with the Pelican logo. Even though the nib is steel it feels smooth, unlike other steel nibs that can feel stiff. With a little pressure applied while writing the tines will split a little providing for the variety of width of the line.
The pen can be used with cartridges or with an ink converter if the user wants to fill it from an ink bottle.
The high-quality materials and tough construction make this a real workhorse pen perfect for everyday use meant to last for generations.
It produces beautiful lines with constant ink flow simply gliding on any paper.
