We are very proud to offer this extremely rare variant of the famed Montblanc Monte Rosa 042, here in scarcely seen color, purple to blue color. This pen is a rare variant of the original first series Montblanc Monte Rosa model launched in 1953. The 042 model was actually the precursor to many of the models that followed, and even though Montblanc marketed the Monte Rosa as more affordable entrance class, it was actually non-distinguishable by quality, materials and craftsmanship, in-fact, some Monte Roras are better build quality than some 2XX and 3XX series, as the fact being they were less prone to cracks and thus many Monte Rosas survived to this day in great condition. The G in the 042G stands for Gold Nib, as some 042 were fitted with steel nibs, hence only 042. 

This model is famous for its reliability, design and functionality. The pen has a classic old style form factor with superb balance, handling and feel, easy to use yet powerful and reliable writing instrument. Very thick pen with a very good grip and feel in the hand. It has a solid brass piston spiral, which can never fail and the piston has a double seal silicone cork. Unlike other models it has a star cross section shaft, which is more solid and secure, it just feels solid and nice when operating the piston. This was one of the first Montblanc pens to feature the silicone cork which cannot leak, and later became the industry standard. All trimmings are gold filled and there are crisp imprints on the barrel and turning knob. Thick crack preventing cap ring with nice multi-peak wave-shape representing the mountain peak of Monte Rosa. Perfectly clean fully transparent and large ink window where one can even easily see the color of the ink. Piston fills smoothly and takes nice amount of ink each time the pen is filled. Very easy to fill from a bottle of ink, and with one fill it can last up to a month. The interesting mechanism about this piston is that the turning knob does not distance itself from the body when its rotated, rather it is always joined with the body. The nib is the best part, the original 342 solid 14K 585 gold nib, fully flexible EF extra fine size, and will write all sizes up to BB double broad depending on the applied pressure. This produces an amazing writing, a pronounced and nice line variation on every letter, some of the best writing one could hope to achieve with a fountain pen. The nib is placed on the original ebonite feed which has a large ink canal providing a very constant ink flow. The purple blue color is unique, it is difficult to correctly capture on photos, but it will change its appearance depending on the light of which the pen is exposed. It is also slightly transparent, visible on photos 1-4, which is surprisingly nice. The pen is in mint condition, minimal signs of use but no scratches or cracks, perfectly preserved. A true Montblanc legend in one of its rarest editions, with amazing performance and timeless design.
