Condition and information:
This is one of the rarest original Merz & Krell pens. The pen is made in the early 1950's and is one of the few pens made by the company which do not bare any of their mainstream brands such as Senator or Diplomat. The pen is distinguishable by its nib marking, the capped turning knob and many other features unique to an original Merz and Krell Pen. The pen has a snake skin finish with a serene colors, from pearl grey to pearl light blue and green, difficult to capture in photos. The best feature of this pen must be the nib. Merz and Krell were famous for producing great nibs. The nib simply feels as a paint brush, the tines of the nib split apart as soon as it touches the paper. It is an super sharp EF extra fine size, but it will write anything from Extra Fine EF to double broad and even triple broad on the down strokes and the odd side strokes. The nib is amazing writer and smooth on the paper even when the tines come apart. The writing with this nib is remarkable. The nib is suspended over an ebonite feed with a great and consistent ink flow. Writing with this pen will take some time getting used to, it is not like ordinary fountain pen, the nib is soft and requires gentle and smooth handling and writing. The pen features gold filled plated metal parts, so no gold ware off is possible. Another special feature is the large elongated ink window with spiral lines, it is simply amazing. Obviously a lot of handcrafting work had gone in to the production of this pen. The pen is highly ergonomic, perfect length and thickness, very good grip and feel in the hand. Extremely well build, simply very beautiful and unique pen with amazing writing experience. The pen is in absolute mint condition, no signs of use, no scratches or cracks, fills and writes perfectly.

About the Company: The Merz & Krell Pen Company was famous for manufacturing parts for many pen companies including Montblanc, Pelikan, Reform and others. This company even manufactured entire pen lines for Pelikan such as the 120 model type II and the rare 400NN Merz & Krell model. This company had many brands under its name, including Senator, Diplomat, the famous Melbi and others. Senator was their main brand in the 60's and early 70's. The Senator Merz & Krell Pen Company is one of the oldest in Europe, with almost 100 years of tradition. They had a very strong collaboration with all great German pen companies, starting from Pelikan, Montblanc, Diplomat, Reform and other brands. One of the less know facts about Merz & Krell is that they produced many of the nibs for these companies, and other parts as well. The company is also renowned for many breakthroughs and inventions in the pen business. Today the company is highly restructured and oriented to the entrance class pen market, but they still manufacture some one of the best pens in the world.
